  • Overview

    Work involves serving food provide by a third party vendor and storing all food used in the Head Start program in an efficient, safe, sanitary manner, and cleaning of the preparation area, utensils, and equipment  daily.

     

    Schedule:  27.5 Hours Per Week

     

    2018/2019 School Year - Now through June 30, 2019

     

    Hours:  07:30AM - 1:00PM

     

    Work Location:   Head Start Centers, Trenton, New Jersey 08638

    Responsibilities

    • Assists in food preparation that has been provided by a third party vendor.
    • Carries milk, utensils, napkins to classrooms for meals.
    • Prepares bowls of food and carries to classrooms and follows directions for providing appropriate, specified quantities to children and adults.
    • Sees that assigned classrooms have sufficient food for additional servings.
    • Completes a head count of children eating lunch by physically counting and verifying this number with the teaching staff; this should be done at the time of asking if additional servings are needed.
    • Retrieves bus pans with dirty dishes from classrooms and returns to kitchen for washing.
    • Washes dishes after all meals and stores them for next meal use.
    • Maintains the work area in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
    • Assists with cleaning of ranges, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, and other food service equipment on a regular, periodic basis.
    • Stores food in first-in, first-out order on shelves in accordance with the local health and sanitation requirements.
    • Assists the Nutrition Supervisor in regular cleaning and organizing of the pantry and other  storage areas.
    • Informs Nutrition Supervisor of food items and supplies needed.
    • Assists the Nutrition Supervisor in receiving all food and kitchen supplies from vendors.

     

    Qualifications

    Education Requirement:   High School Diploma or GED

     

    Experience Requirements:  Minimum of one year of experience in food service preparation and one year experience working with preschool aged children.
