Overview

The Bilingual (English/Spanish) WIC Nutritionist will provide individual nutrition counseling, facilitate group education, and serve as site coordinator at satellite sites as needed.

 

Schedule: 35 Hours Per Week

 

Must be able to be flexible and able to work late hours and weekend as needed.

Monday and Thursday – 8:30AM -4:30PM or 09:00AM – 05:00PM

Tuesdays – 07:00AM – 03:00PM or 08:00AM – 04:00PM

Wednesdays – 10:30AM – 06:30PM or 11:30AM – 7:30PM

Responsibilities

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • The Nutritionist will serve as site coordinators at satellite sites as needed
  • Provide individual nutrition counseling and facilitate group education. 
  • Attend DHSS meetings as requested and required. 
  • Nutritionists will attend training to keep up to date with health, nutrition, breastfeeding and WIC topics.
  • Represents the WIC program at health fairs and outreach events, meetings, etc., as needed
  • Serves as a breastfeeding advocate and refers clients to WIC breastfeeding staff
  • Prescribes the authorized supplemental foods based on nutrition needs and participant preferences
  • Provides nutrition education responsive to the identified needs and interests of participants
  • Documents an assessment and plan of care for all WIC participants
  • Makes appropriate referrals
  • Documents in WIC ACCESS, the nutrition risk, nutrition education contacts, assigned food packages and appropriate referral

Qualifications

Education Requirement: Qualified applicants must be one of the following:

  • Nutritionist (M.P.H., or M.S. in Clinical Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition, Community Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Dietetics, Nutritional Science, or Home Economics with emphasis in Nutrition)
  • Nutritionist with a Bachelor of Science degree in an approved Program in Dietetics with a DPD Verification Statement or Plan IV or V.
  • Registered Dietitian (or eligible for registration, with completion of the Dietetic Internship)
  • Physician
  • Registered Nurse

 

Work Experience Requirement:

A minimum of one year experience in counseling for the pregnant and postpartum woman, and newborn through early childhood preferred.   Experience leading group nutrition education classes required. 

 

Other Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation needed, as travel throughout Mercer County is required
  • Flexible hours and varied work schedule needed to accommodate evening and weekend program needs. 
  • Bilingual English and Spanish required
  • Computer Literacy
