Overview

Safely operate a school van and bus to transport children to and from their homes and the CHS of NJ Child Care and Head Start Centers over an assigned route according to a time schedule, including students with special needs.   The Van and Bus Driver is often the first and the last person that both a parent and a child see each program day.

 

Schedule: 20 Hours Per Week:

6:30Am- 8:30Am 1:30pm- 3:30pm

 

12 month position

             

Hourly Rate:  $27.00

Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the CHS Childcare Manager, the Van Driver has the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the TCH students and their children during transportation to and from the High School and on and any additional approved trips.  It is also the role of the Driver to guarantee that the van is clean and in proper working condition at all times; assist in determining and follow safe and efficient school transportation routes; ensure all children are in age appropriate child safety restrains; maintain all transportation required by the program; ensure van evacuation drills are held (per policies and procedures); and evacuate children in case of emergency.  The Driver also acts as a link between the parents and the CHS Childcare program and is often the first and the last person that both a parent and a child see each program day.  This position will support and be assigned as needed to also drive the Head Start School Bus.

 

  • Ensures the safety and well-being of children and adults being transported to/from program and on special/field trips.
  • Completes a comprehensive pre and post trip inspection of the van daily, reporting any conditions of concern to the Supervising Manager before transporting children.
  • Must maintain accurate records regarding their vehicle and children who are being transported. The record-keeping includes:
  • Accident reports
  • Pre and post-trip inspections for the operation of the vehicle
  • Regular ongoing maintenance records
  • Contact information for release of a child to a parent or guardian
  • An accurate and up to date seating chart
  • Evacuation Drills and records for drills

 

Qualifications

Education Requirement:   High School Diploma or GED

 

License Required:              

Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class B with an “S” and “P” endorsement

 

Experience Requirements: 

Minimum of one year commercial driving experience transporting children and prior experience working with preschool aged children.
