Overview

Under the supervision of the Community-Based Doula Program Supervisor, the HWHF Postpartum Doula will provide: 1) physical support; 2) emotional support; 3) partner support; 4) postnatal support; 5) evidenced based information and advocacy, including case management services, postpartum care to HWHF families in New Brunswick, NJ. The HWHF Postpartum Doula supports and strengthens the family’s capacity to engage in healthy practices, breastfeeding efforts, parent child bonding activities, while prioritizing the birth person’s overall wellbeing.

 

Hybrid/Flexible schedule that includes day, night, evenings, weekends, and holidays


Region Served:  Trenton, New Jersey

 

Main Office Location: 635 South Clinton Avenue, Trenton, New Jersey

 

Bilingual Skills in Spanish or Haitian Creole a plus

 

Full Time and Part-Time Positions Available:

 

Full Time - 35 Hours Per Week - Hourly Rate $21.75 = $40,000.00 Annual 

 

Part-Time - 17.5 Hours Per Week - Hourly Rate: $21.97

Responsibilities

  • Support and assist with baby’s feeding
  • Providing baby’s laundry support or coordination
  • Supporting birthing person is resting pattern
  • Teaching birthing persons about newborn care
  • Provide direct case management services to birthing people for services, including but not limited to advocacy, and accessing housing, social services, prenatal and pediatric care and other community resources.
  • Provide postpartum care to the mother and baby including physical and emotional support of the mother and baby, infant care education and support
  • Assist with the selection of postpartum curriculum and training for community birthing people interested in becoming postpartum doulas.
  • Help trained doulas to enroll as Medicaid providers if and when eligible.
  • Build a network of support within the program and among clients that focuses on trust, well-being and social/community integration.
  • Maintain records as required by organizational policies and regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in human services, social work, or psychology preferred or relevant years of experience working with the community can be substituted.  Certification as a Postpartum Doula from an accredited and/or accepted organization approved by the NJ Department of Health.  Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a doula.
