Overview

The Health Educator is a non-clinical professional and cannot offer medical advice, diagnose medical conditions, or perform clinical procedures/treatments of any kind.The Health Educator does not prescribe or administer any medication including over the counter medication. The Health Educator cannot advise families to act against medical advice.

 

Schedule: 35 Hours Per Week

 

Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Creole a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health education classes for expectant parents, covering topics such as prenatal care, childbirth education, labor and delivery, postpartum care, breastfeeding and newborn care, among other topics
  • Assist with the delivery of prenatal health education and support group programs, including but not limited to CUNA, Body and Soul, Comenzando Bien and Becoming a mom, as well as education classes focusing on lactation, preconception, family planning and others.
  • Use diverse teaching methods, including but not limited to popular education, lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and interactive activities, to engage participants.
  • Provide culturally sensitive and age appropriate education based on the need of our clients.
  • Organize and maintain an inventory of all educational materials, supplies, and teaching aids needed for education classes.
  • Provide information about the physiology, psychology and sociology of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and early parenthood.
  • When appropriate will seek guidance from other medical providers, consultants, clinicians, midwives, nurses, community doulas or community health workers to support the goals and objectives of the PCIM program.
  • Help women access accurate and up to date information about childbirth to help them make informed decisions about their care. When appropriate, involve support persons or partners in the decision making process.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages active participation and fosters a sense of community among participants.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

Certified Childbirth Educator (CCCE) - CAPPA, DONA, ICCE, LAMAZE or any other designation preferred with proven experience working as a facilitator

 

Work Experience Requirement:

Must have at least three years of experience in maternal child health services, including but not limited to doula services, public health, early childhood, parent support, and/or dyadic work with women, children and families; must display high sensitivity and understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion issues affecting health disparities in BIPOC communities.
