Overview

The Community Based Doula will provide emotional support, physical comfort and information to the birthing person and her family during the prenatal, labor & delivery, and postpartum periods.

 

Candidate must be available to assist with prenatal, labor and birth, as well as postnatal services as needed and must have a flexible work schedule based on the needs of the program participants.  Doula may assist with a caseload of up to 20 participants for the year.

 

Bilingual Required: English/Haitian Creole or English/Spanish

 

Salary: $42,000 - $45,000/annual

Responsibilities

  • Provide emotional support, physical comfort and information to the pregnant woman, birthing person and her family during the prenatal, labor & delivery, and postpartum periods.
  • Meet with participants for a minimum of eight visits, lasting 1.5-2.0 hours, in both prenatal and postpartum periods. Assist families in initiating and strengthening the parent-child relationship.
  • Identify needs and refer families to additional community resources, including healthcare and basic necessities, refer families to PCIM Supervisor/Health Liaison for more intense needs.
  • Assist families in establishing a birth plan and increase the family’s ability to problem solve and advocate for themselves and their children, especially during the birth process.
  • Be on-call to respond call/texts and are available to support clients in between visits.
  • Be on-call and available to leave for the hospital to attend and support the laboring mother and her family during the intrapartum, and immediate postpartum period.
  • Be able to participate in meetings, conferences, webinars, trainings and check in, etc. as needed.
  • Be able to prepare, organize and provide informative lives in Facebook/Private Group.
  • Keep records in accordance with organizational polices, protocols and regulations set by accrediting agencies.
  • Make sure to enter all necessary data into the agency’s designated database system no later than 24 hours.

Qualifications

Educational and Experience: Qualifications: High School Diploma is required for this position. Must be trained and certified in the Health Connect One (HC1) Community-Based Doula curriculum. Bilingual (English/Haitian Creole or English/Spanish) is required.  Previous experience in roles such as a Community Health Worker, Patient Navigator, Home Visitor, or Health and Wellness Coordinator is a plus. Proficient computer skills. Agree to enroll as a Medicaid provider with the organization. Familiarity with the needs of BIPOC and Haitian-Creole-speaking communities.
